Pete Morton
New album 'Economy'
Released 31 / 01 / 2011
Now the world has again gone completely mad and everyone is talking about
insecurity in all aspects of life, it is with a great deal of relief that we
announce the return of Pete Morton, one of England’s finest songwriters and
our nomination for the voice of reason in these troubled times.
Pete’s new album ‘Economy’ is his first set of original songs for over three
years and is an insightful, informed, honest and sometimes questioning look
at the modern human condition. These wonderfully crafted songs deal with all
the prevalent subjects such as need, greed, trust, communication, conflict,
love, relationships, basic humanity and yes, economy.
‘Economy’ sees Pete teaming up with specialist producer Dawson Smith and a
host of top notch musicians including the ever remarkable Roger Wilson on
fiddle and the wonderful Lisa Banks on Melodeon, flute and vocals.
The plan was to capture the energy of Pete’s live performances and to
enhanced and develop the songs through additional musicians and professional
production, the plan worked a treat and has delivered an album of
outstanding quality.
‘Economy’ will be released on Monday 31st January 2011 on Annson Records and
has full distribution through
Proper Music Distribution.
Pete has not been idle over the three years since his last set of original
songs. Several mini tours of America and Europe have kept him busy as well
as maintaining a strong presence on the UK folk scene with regular club and
festival appearances. Pete also self released 'Casa Abierta’ an album of
songs in different languages and a collection of new
recordings of his most popular songs on the ‘Napoleon Jukebox’ album.
‘Napoleon Jukebox’ was a timely look back over Pete’s highly impressive back
catalogue of great songs. Now with the release of ‘Economy’ it’s time to
look forward to some moments of sanity in an increasingly mad world.

"not only impressive but a
revelation......totally original." The Guardian "
"The performance at the live radio show was
nothing short of brilliant."

Folk singer Pete Morton is a songwriter and performer originally from
Leicester, in the
English midlands, who currently lives in London. With
a wealth of great songs and stage presence, his show is dynamic and
intense
as well as approachable and fun loving. Well
known songs such as
'Another Train', The Shepherds Song, and 'Six Billion Eccentrics' are
now performed at gigs along side songs from the album
'Economy', which features the
well loved rant: 'The Sock on the Line'
and the anthemic 'When we Sing Together'.
Starting out as a busker on the streets of Europe, he has entertained
all over the globe with his unique and involving style of song-writing
and traditional singing. Pete sings from the heart, delivering songs
that tell compelling stories and speak of the human condition from a
very unique perspective. With a passionate, strong voice and strident
guitar style, traditional songs often rub shoulders with Pete's current
writing with remarkable ease. His songs are an unruly mix of humour,
politics, love and social comment, wrapping their way around the folk
tradition.
Pete has recorded five solo albums of original material and a project
album of traditional songs entitled 'Trespass'. His CD 'Hunting the
Heart' was a MOJO folk album of the year in 2000. His more recent
releases, 'Swarthmoor' and 'Flying an Unknown Flag' have received rave
reviews. Pete has also rerecorded his most requested songs on an album,
entitled 'Napoleon Jukebox'. In early 2009, Pete released 'Casa Abierta
- ten songs in different tongues'. A challenging but original project.
The reaction to this album has been positive, if not at times,
incredible and baffling to some.
It received great reviews, including
four stars in Mojo Magazine.
Another Train' is without doubt, Pete's most widely covered song.
Popular with choirs and folk artists around the world, the song has
brought hope and encouragement to countless listeners over the years.
So go along and hear Pete Morton. His songs and performances are a joy.
